 white blood cell count Adult human के body में white blood cells 5 से 9 हजारप्रति क्यूबिक मिमी blood होता है। ये red blood cellsसे बड़े परन्तु संख्या में बहुत कम होता है। ये  colorless और nucleated होते है।  इनकी संख्या अत्यधिक कम हो जाने पर leucopenia हो जाता है तथा अधिक हो जाने पर leukocytosis कहते है ये दोनों  conditions घातक होते है।  white blood cells की  shape स्थाई न होकर amoeba की तरह परिवर्तनशील होता है। ये mobile होते है और blood से tissue fluids में जाकर pathogens एवं antigen substances को नष्ट करके body की सुरक्षा प्रदान करते है।  अपनी एवं  nucleus की Shape और माप तथा intracellular materials  की किस्म के आधार पर ये कई प्रकार के होते है ,परन्तु इनकी दो प्रमुख श्रेणिया  होती है - Two types of white blood cells 1.Granulocytes : ये तीन प्रकार के होते है- (a) acidophils or eosinophils (b)basophils (c)heterophils or neutrophils  2.Agranulocytes: ये दो प्रकार के होते है  (a) lymphocytes (b) monocytes
